- How do Kodi Connect events provide value for your time?
I have been a regular attendee of Kodi Connect events over the last couple of years, and I continue to find tremendous value in the quality of discussions with technology leaders across a wide range of organizations. Many of us are tackling remarkably similar challenges in data engineering, cloud platforms, AI adoption, governance, and large-scale analytics, even though we operate in different industries.
These events provide an opportunity to engage in both formal and informal discussions where we exchange implementation experiences, architectural approaches, and lessons learned from solving complex technical problems. I have shared implementation approaches that were developed and successfully implemented within my organization, and it has been especially rewarding when fellow technology leaders later shared that they had adopted elements of the solution patterns I presented to address similar challenges within their teams. Likewise, I have benefited tremendously from hearing how others approached similar challenges, often taking away ideas that sparked valuable discussions within my own teams and informed our own engineering decisions.
To me, Kodi Connect events are collaborative forums where architects, engineering managers, directors, and technology leaders openly challenge assumptions, compare implementation strategies, and collectively advance the practice of modern engineering. Those conversations consistently provide fresh perspectives on modern data platforms, AI adoption engineering practices, and organizational scalability.
- What was your reason for joining the Kodi Connect Advisory Board?
I was pleased to accept the invitation to serve on the Kodi Connect Advisory Board because I saw it as an opportunity to contribute to a community of experienced technology leaders who are passionate about advancing the profession. Throughout my career in data engineering, I’ve benefited from conversations with experienced practitioners who were willing to openly discuss architecture decisions, implementation challenges, and lessons learned. Serving on the Advisory Board allows me to contribute back to that community.
What I particularly value is the diversity of perspectives. Bringing together leaders from different organizations creates an environment where practical approaches are challenged, refined, and often adapted in ways that benefit many teams. I enjoy participating in those discussions and learning how other leaders are approaching emerging technologies and evolving engineering practices.
- What innovation in your field excites you the most right now?
In data engineering, the rapid integration of AI into modern data platforms is one of the most significant shifts I’ve seen in my career. Large language models have captured everyone’s attention, but their success in enterprise environments ultimately depends on the quality, governance, and accessibility of enterprise data.
I’m particularly interested in how AI is transforming the way engineering teams build and operate data products. AI-assisted development, intelligent automation, metadata-driven engineering, and semantic data layers have the potential to significantly improve engineering productivity while making trusted data more accessible across the business.
- How do you decide when to adopt a new technology versus waiting for it to mature?
I wouldn’t adopt a new technology simply because it’s new. One of the biggest mistakes an organization can make is chasing technology trends without a clear business purpose. Every new technology should be evaluated based on the value it can deliver rather than the excitement surrounding it.
My approach is to consider several factors: the maturity of the technology, the strength of its ecosystem, security and governance implications, how well it integrates with our existing architecture, and, most importantly, whether it addresses a meaningful business challenge. Early adoption makes sense when the potential value clearly outweighs the risks and the organization has the technical capability to implement and support it responsibly.
- What advice would you give emerging tech leaders today?
Focus on understanding problems before becoming attached to a particular technology. The technology landscape will continue to evolve rapidly, but sound judgment and delivering meaningful business value will always matter.
I also encourage emerging leaders to invest in the broader technology community. Some of the best ideas I’ve encountered didn’t come from books or conferences - they came from conversations with experienced practitioners who were willing to share what worked, what didn’t, and why. Those exchanges have shaped my own thinking throughout my career.
Finally, stay curious and never stop learning. The leaders who have the greatest impact are those who combine strong technical fundamentals with curiosity, adaptability, continuous learning, and a genuine commitment to helping others succeed.
Kodi Connect Key Takeaways:
- AI is transforming modern data engineering through intelligent and governed data platforms: The growing integration of AI into data engineering is driving advances in AI-assisted development, intelligent automation, metadata-driven engineering, and semantic data layers. However, successful enterprise AI adoption depends on high-quality, accessible, and well-governed data.
- Executive technology networking accelerates data engineering innovation and knowledge sharing: Kodi Connect events create collaborative environments where data engineers, architects, engineering managers, and technology leaders can exchange implementation strategies, architectural approaches, and lessons learned across data engineering, cloud platforms, AI adoption, governance, and enterprise analytics.
- Successful technology adoption requires business value, technical maturity, and continuous learning: Technology leaders should evaluate emerging solutions based on business impact, ecosystem maturity, security, governance, and architectural fit rather than simply following trends. Strong technology leadership combines technical fundamentals with curiosity, adaptability, continuous learning, and a commitment to sharing knowledge.
