- What motivates you to attend Kodi Connect events?
I’m motivated to attend Kodi Connect events for the chance to compare & benchmark with peers who are dealing with similar problems in real time - not vendor pitches, not a consultation - actual experienced practitioner-to-practitioner conversation about what's working and what isn't.
- What was your reason for joining the Kodi Connect Advisory Board?
My reason for joining the Kodi Advisory Board is simple: I wanted a seat where I could help shape the conversations, not just consume them. I spent several years in consulting (much of it on the road) before finding my current home. IT & Security leadership are often siloed within organizations - the Kodi Advisory Board is a way to pressure-test my thinking in this space against executives and leadership across industries.
- How do you see AI reshaping the role of security teams?
It's shifting security teams from reactive investigators to proactive analysts. In insider threat and forensics specifically, AI is compressing the time between "something looks off" and "here's what factually happened" - but AI also raises the bar on what a malicious actor can do, so it cuts both ways.
- What keeps you up at night as a security leader?
Insider risk that doesn't look like insider risk - the slow, quiet activity that never trips alarms. Technology and security solutions help, but it's the blind spots in processes and culture that worry me more than any external threat actor. As we progress along the digital frontier of AI, it’s critical as technologists to review our IT and Security foundations, assess our gaps, build controls, rigorously test those controls - rinse & repeat.
- What's one area where the tech community needs to work together more effectively?
Knowledge sharing, especially as it relates to insider threat and DLP lessons learned. Everyone protects their playbook like it's proprietary, and some of it may be, but most of us are familiar with traffic light protocol and know exactly what we can and cannot share. The patterns of insider risk are largely universal - we'd all be better off comparing more notes.
Kodi Connect Key Takeaways:
- Practitioner-led cybersecurity networking strengthens insider risk and security strategy: Kodi Connect events give cybersecurity and IT leaders a forum to benchmark real-world challenges, exchange lessons learned, and compare security strategies with experienced peers without relying on vendor-driven conversations.
- AI is transforming digital forensics and insider threat detection: Artificial intelligence is shifting security teams from reactive investigation toward proactive analysis by accelerating the detection, investigation, and understanding of suspicious activity. However, AI also introduces new risks by giving malicious actors more sophisticated capabilities.
- Insider risk requires stronger security foundations, governance, and knowledge sharing: The most difficult insider threats may not trigger traditional security alerts, making strong processes, organizational culture, data loss prevention, and continuously tested security controls essential. Greater collaboration and sharing of anonymized insider risk patterns can help organizations strengthen enterprise security.
